New computer with nothing on it
You brought home a new desktop or a PC built in the shop, connected the monitor, pressed the button — and there is a black screen, a strange message in English or the BIOS opens straight away. It isn’t broken: there just isn’t an operating system yet. Such computers are often sold with no Windows at all — not even Free DOS.
What you may see on screen
- The BIOS opens straight away — the computer found nothing to boot from.
- “Reboot and Select proper Boot device” or “No bootable device” — there is no system on the drive.
- A black screen with a blinking cursor — the same: no system.
- No picture at all — often the monitor is plugged into the motherboard instead of the graphics card.
What Windows installation needs
- A Windows 11 licence, Home or Pro — official, bought by the client. Home or Pro?
- A USB stick of 8 GB or more — for the official Windows installer from Microsoft.
- Internet — by cable or Wi-Fi (on some boards Wi-Fi works only after a driver — cable is safer).
- Drivers for the motherboard and graphics card — from the manufacturers’ official sites.
How installation goes
- Write the official Windows 11 installer to the USB stick.
- In the BIOS check: UEFI mode, Secure Boot, TPM (Intel PTT, AMD fTPM).
- Boot from the USB stick, choose the drive (usually a new M.2 SSD) and install Windows.
- If the installer can’t see the drive — a storage driver is needed.
- Drivers, updates, software, keyboard layouts.
- Check: graphics, sound, internet, all USB ports, temperatures.
Common mistakes
- The monitor is plugged into the motherboard’s rear panel, not the graphics card — games and video stutter or there is no picture at all.
- Legacy/CSM mode is on in the BIOS — Windows 11 won’t install.
- A pirated “build” with drivers “for everything” — then viruses and crashes.
- Drivers from random sites instead of the manufacturer’s.
- Not checking that all hardware works while the shop warranty is valid.
If the computer doesn’t turn on at all
If the button does nothing, the fans don’t spin or it switches off at once — that is a hardware question. I check power and connections on site; if the board, power supply or another part is faulty, it is a warranty case for the shop or a job for a repair shop with equipment — I don’t repair boards.
How I can help
I come on the day of purchase, check the monitor connection and BIOS, install official Windows 11, drivers and software and make sure everything works. Windows installation — from 50 ₾, turnkey with software and Office — from 80 ₾, evenings and nights — from 100 ₾. Bought a laptop rather than a desktop — a separate guide. Urgent — urgent Windows installation.
