What is the same
The look, speed, games, Office, browsers, Windows Security and security updates are the same in both editions. For home, study and most games, Home is all you need.
What only Pro has
The difference is in features for work and for managing computers:
- BitLocker — full encryption of drives and USB sticks with key management. Home only has the simpler “device encryption”, and not on every computer.
- Remote Desktop host — you can connect to a Pro PC with Windows’ built-in tool. A Home PC can connect out to others but cannot be connected to.
- Group Policy — detailed rules and restrictions, handy for offices and clubs.
- Hyper-V and Windows Sandbox — virtual machines and a safe place to run suspicious programs.
- Domain and business management — needed in companies with a central IT department.
Who needs what
Home — home use, study, games, the internet, photos and video. Pro — offices, accounting, computers with confidential data, remote access, internet cafés and gaming clubs that need guest restrictions.
Upgrading from Home to Pro
No reinstall needed: enter a Pro key in Settings → System → Activation and Windows upgrades while keeping your files and programs. Just make sure the key is genuine.

Is Pro faster than Home?

My laptop came with Home. Can I install Pro?
Yes, with a Pro key. Without one, the Home licence stored in the laptop will not activate Pro.
