Computer boots straight into BIOS: why and what to do
You press the button and instead of Windows the BIOS (UEFI) menu appears with settings, fans and temperatures. You exit — and it opens again. That is how the computer says: “I found nothing to boot from”.
The most common causes
- A new computer without a system. The most common: Windows isn’t installed yet. More — article.
- The drive isn’t visible. The drive list in the BIOS is empty — not connected, not fully seated (M.2) or faulty.
- Settings changed. After a BIOS update, a flat battery or a reset, the boot mode changed.
- Storage mode. Some Intel boards have VMD/RAID on — Windows is installed, but the BIOS doesn’t “see” it.
What to look at in the BIOS
- The Boot section: is Windows Boot Manager first?
- Storage / NVMe: is the drive visible at all?
- UEFI on, CSM/Legacy off (for Windows 10 and 11 on new PCs).
- If unsure, don’t change things at random or “reset everything” if the drive holds important data.
How I can help
I sort it out on site: no system — I install official Windows 11; Windows there but not booting — I restore booting without losing files; a failing drive — I save the data and suggest a replacement. Visit — from 50 ₾, Windows installation — from 50 ₾.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Is the computer broken?
Usually not: if the BIOS works, the board, processor and memory are alive. The issue is the drive or the system.
Can I exit the BIOS and boot?
If there is no drive with a system, or it isn’t visible, the BIOS will open again. Windows needs installing or settings fixing.
