A new computer
If the computer is new, most likely there is simply no Windows on it. That is normal: such computers are sold without a system. Windows needs installing — see “New computer with nothing on it”.
It worked and suddenly stopped
- A USB stick or drive plugged in — the computer tries to boot from it. Remove everything extra and restart.
- The boot order in the BIOS changed — after a BIOS update or a flat motherboard battery.
- UEFI / Legacy mode changed — Windows was installed in one mode, the BIOS switched to the other.
- A loose drive cable — in desktops, after moving.
- A damaged Windows boot loader — after a power cut or a failed update.
- The drive isn’t detected at all — the drive may be failing: save the data first.
What to check yourself
- Remove all USB sticks, memory cards and external drives, restart.
- Enter the BIOS and see whether the drive is visible and first in the boot order.
- Don’t “reset”, format or reinstall Windows if there are important files on the drive — back up first.
How I can help
I find the cause on site: boot order, BIOS mode, boot loader or drive. If the system is there, I restore booting without losing files; if not, I install official Windows; if the drive is failing, I save the data first. Visit and diagnosis — from 50 ₾, Windows installation — from 50 ₾.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Is it a virus?
Almost never. Usually it is the boot order, a USB stick, no system, or a drive problem.
Are my files gone?
Usually not: the files are on the drive, the computer just can’t load Windows. The key thing is not to format the drive.
