What to ask the seller before buying tech: 10 questions
It is easy to get lost in a shop: many models, a seller in a hurry, “sale ends tonight”. The questions below need no tech knowledge — just ask them and write down the answers. If the seller can’t answer, that is an answer too.
Ten questions
- What is the warranty and where are repairs done? How long, whether you need the receipt and box, where to go if it breaks.
- Can I return or exchange it? Within what time and on what terms.
- What system is installed? Laptops in Georgia often come with Free DOS — no Windows, it has to be installed separately.
- What language are the menu and keyboard? Is there an English layout, can the TV or vacuum language be changed?
- What is in the box? Charger, cables, mounts, remote — so you don’t have to buy them later.
- Does the plug fit? Devices from other countries sometimes need an adapter.
- Is this the new model or last year’s? Last year’s is often almost the same but cheaper.
- Is there a cheaper one that does the same? An honest seller will show a simpler option if it fits.
- How much is the “extra protection” and what exactly does it give? If they can’t explain — don’t take it.
- Can you turn it on and test it in front of me? Screen, sound, camera, buttons.
Before you go to the shop
- Write down what you need it for and your budget — with a ceiling.
- Take a photo of where it will stand (for a TV — the wall and socket, for a vacuum — the door sills).
- Find out your home Wi-Fi name and password: many devices can’t be set up without it.
What not to give in to
- “The last one in stock”, “today only” — a good purchase is rarely urgent.
- Paid “setup” in the shop if it is just turning it on and signing in.
- Credit or instalments whose terms you haven’t read.
How I can help
I can choose the device for your task and budget, and if you like, go to the shop with you, ask the seller the right questions and check the purchase on the spot. Then I set it all up at home. The trip is an ordinary visit, from 50 ₾; new device setup — from 50 ₾. I take no commission from shops.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Can I just send a link and ask if it is worth buying?
For a short question — yes. To choose several options for your task, it is easier to meet or go to the shop together.
Do you get a commission from the shop?
No. I choose for your task, and you buy it yourself.
