Online interview and test: don’t let your tech fail you
More and more shipowner interviews happen by video call, and tests on a computer. It’s painful when an experienced seafarer isn’t hired because nobody could hear him or the connection kept dropping.
The day before
- Check the app the agency sent: installed, sign-in works, sound and camera turn on.
- A headset with a microphone — your voice sounds clearer than through laptop speakers.
- Laptop charging, Windows updates installed in advance.
- A test call with a friend: how you look and sound.
The place
- A quiet room; warn your family.
- Light in front of you (window or lamp), not behind.
- Camera at eye level, neutral background.
- Internet: close to the router or by cable; backup — phone hotspot.
Computer-based test
English and professional tests often take place at the agency office or online under supervision. If online, you need stable internet, a camera and a quiet place with nobody else around. Ask the agency about computer requirements in advance.
How I can help
I set up your laptop and interview apps, run a test call and help you prepare answers in English. If home is crowded, I’ll suggest a quiet place in Batumi for the interview.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Can I use my phone?
You can, but a laptop is more reliable: bigger screen, better sound, and tests often require a computer.
What if the connection drops?
Rejoin at once and message the crewing manager. Keep a phone hotspot ready.
Do you help with English?
Yes, I prepare you for typical interview questions in English.
