Before you leave
- All Windows and app updates — at home on fast internet.
- Backup of important files on a USB drive or external disk and in the cloud.
- Scans of documents in a separate folder — available offline.
- Offline films, series, books, dictionaries, English courses.
- Antivirus updated; USB autorun off — there are many shared USB sticks on board.
- A Windows sign-in password and disk encryption if you keep personal documents.
Hardware
- Check the battery: under an hour — replace it before the contract.
- Clean out the dust: cabins are hot and overheating shortens a laptop’s life.
- An old hard drive? Swap it for an SSD: it doesn’t mind vibration and rolling.
- A surge protector and a plug adapter; a spare charger helps.
On board
Don’t put the laptop on a bed or blanket — it overheats. Scan colleagues’ USB sticks. Once a month copy your photos and files to an external disk.
How I can help
I prepare a “laptop for sea” in one visit: updates, backup, offline content, security, cleaning and, if needed, an SSD upgrade. I come to you in Batumi.
FAQ
Questions and answers
How long does it take?
Usually one visit of a few hours — mostly updates and downloading offline content.
Do I need an antivirus?
Built-in Windows security is enough if it’s on and updated before the contract.
Laptop or tablet?
For study, documents and tests a laptop is better; for films a tablet is fine.
