How to introduce new technology to a team without resistance

You bought a good program, paid for the subscription — and a month later everyone is back to working “the old way” in a notebook and WhatsApp. Sound familiar? It is almost never about the program but about people — and that can be solved.

Why people resist

  • Fear of looking incompetent. An experienced employee suddenly becomes a beginner — unpleasant, especially in front of colleagues.
  • Loss of control. The old way was clear and predictable, the new one isn’t.
  • Extra work at the start. For the first weeks the new way is slower than the old one, and the benefit only shows later.
  • No clear “why”. If an employee sees no benefit for themselves, they only see inconvenience.
  • A bad past experience. “We tried this before — and dropped it.”

What works

  • Start with the “why” for the employee, not for the company. Not “to keep things in order”, but “so you don’t spend 20 minutes looking for a contract”.
  • A pilot with 1–2 people. Start with someone who likes new things. Their result convinces the others better than any order.
  • One feature at a time. Not everything at once: first only clients, two weeks later — tasks.
  • Training at the workplace, on real tasks, not an hour-long presentation.
  • The right to make mistakes. In the first month nobody is scolded for errors in the new system.
  • Switch the old way off. As long as the notebook and the group chat exist, the new system stays “optional”.

The manager’s role

The team watches the manager, not the order. If you keep asking for reports in WhatsApp instead of the new system, the rollout is over. Use it first, and visibly.

Signs the rollout is going well

  • Employees ask questions themselves: “can we do it like this…”.
  • Suggestions for improvement appear.
  • A month later nobody remembers the old way.

How I help

I set up programs, computers and the office network and give short training at workplaces — one task at a time, on your real examples. No presentations just for show. Office IT support — from 50 ₾ per computer, AI training — from 50 ₾.

FAQ

Questions and answers

How long does a rollout take?
For a small team usually a few weeks: a pilot, then one feature at a time.
What if one employee sabotages it?
Talk in person and find out the reason: most often it is the fear of looking incompetent. A short one-to-one session helps.
