Home office for remote work: monitor, light, internet
Many people in Batumi work online — often on a laptop at the kitchen table. A couple of months later the neck hurts, the face is dark on calls and the internet drops at the most important moment. A comfortable workspace takes one evening to set up.
Screen and posture
- A monitor for your laptop — screen at eye level, no neck pain. One cable to connect.
- No monitor — a laptop stand plus a separate keyboard and mouse.
- The window to the side, not behind you or in front of the screen.
Calls
- Light in front of your face: a window or a small lamp. Light from behind makes your face dark.
- Camera at eye level; the built-in one is often enough if the laptop is placed right.
- Sound — a headset removes the echo of an empty flat.
- Test everything in advance with a test call.
Internet without surprises
- The router closer to your desk, or a cable to the laptop for important calls.
- Backup internet — a mobile router or phone hotspot in case the main line drops.
- Check the speed at your desk, not next to the router.
Order and safety
- Cables in a cable tray or under the desk.
- A surge-protected power strip, not a cheap extension — especially with a heater and a computer at once.
- A cloud backup of work files.
- A laptop password and screen lock when you step away.

FAQ
Questions and answers
Can a TV replace a monitor?
For calls and films — yes; for long work with text a monitor is more comfortable.
What internet speed do video calls need?
Stable 10–20 Mbps is enough for normal calls. Stability matters more than speed.
