Smart TV in a rented apartment: set it up your way
In a rented flat the TV is usually “someone else’s”: the menu is in Georgian or Turkish, the apps are logged in to previous tenants’ accounts, and the app you want is missing. All of it can be sorted in one evening.
Language and Wi-Fi
- The menu language is changed in the TV settings: the General or System section → Language. If you cannot read the menu, look for the gear icon.
- Connect the TV to your own Wi-Fi. If the 5 GHz network does not appear, older TVs do not support it — use the 2.4 GHz network.
- If the router is far away and video stutters: Wi-Fi that reaches every room.
Other people’s accounts
Video apps and the TV app store often stay logged in to the owner’s or previous tenants’ accounts. Sign out and sign in with your own — otherwise your viewing history and subscriptions end up with strangers. If the TV belongs to the landlord, do not factory-reset it without permission; signing out of the accounts is enough.
The app you need is missing
- Some apps in a TV’s store are not available in every country. The simple fix is casting from your phone: phone and TV on the same Wi-Fi, then the cast button in the app.
- Another option is a small streaming stick in the HDMI port with its own app store.
- A laptop can be connected by HDMI too — sometimes the sound has to be switched: no sound over HDMI.
Before you move out
- Sign out of every account in the TV apps.
- Remove your Wi-Fi network from memory if you leave the router behind.
- Remove the TV in your streaming accounts (the Devices section).
