Do this first
- Spilled water or coffee — switch it off at once, unplug the charger, turn it keyboard-down and don’t turn it on. No hairdryer.
- Won’t turn on — try another socket and charger, hold the power button for 30 seconds without the charger.
- Windows won’t boot — don’t press “Reset this PC” and don’t accept any “recovery” that deletes files until your data is copied.
- Important files — if the laptop still works, copy them to the cloud or a USB stick right away.
What can be done at your hotel or flat
- Repair Windows startup or reinstall it while keeping your files.
- Remove viruses, speed it up, free up space.
- Copy data from the drive even if Windows won’t start.
- Set up the hotel Wi-Fi, printer and calls.
What only a repair shop can do
Board repair after a spill, replacing a screen, charging port or fan — that is work for a shop with equipment. I save your files first, then recommend a trusted shop and, if needed, take the laptop there.
If you are flying out soon
Tell me your flight time at once: I plan so the laptop and your data are back with you before departure. If a repair can’t be done in time, I copy your files to a USB stick or the cloud so you can work from another device.
