Moving into a new build: tech checklist for a new flat
The renovation is done and the furniture has arrived — but living there is still awkward: no internet, the TV isn’t set up, a bare bulb in the bedroom. Here is what is worth doing in the first week so the flat actually works.
Internet and Wi-Fi
- Apply to the provider in advance — connection can take several days.
- The router in the centre of the flat, not by the front door.
- Check Wi-Fi in the bedroom and on the balcony; if weak — a mesh system.
- Your own Wi-Fi password and router settings password.
TV and entertainment
- Smart TV: Wi-Fi or cable, apps, YouTube, accounts.
- Channels in your language.
- If the TV goes on the wall, plan the socket and cable in advance.
Lights and sockets
- Ceiling lights and wall lamps instead of bare bulbs.
- Check that all sockets and switches work.
- Surge-protected power strips, not the cheapest; a heater on its own socket.
- Fuse boards and wiring are for a licensed electrician; small jobs — lights, sockets, switches — can be done straight away.
Safety
- A leak sensor under the sink, by the washing machine and water heater — especially in a new building.
- A video peephole or smart doorbell.
- A smoke detector with phone alerts.
Computer, printer, appliances
- Laptop and printer on Wi-Fi, printing from your phone.
- Robot vacuum — connection and a map of the flat.
- Smart speaker and bulbs — if you like.
How I can help
A “housewarming” package: internet and Wi-Fi in every room, Smart TV, ceiling and wall lights, printer, sensors — in one visit. Each service from 50 ₾, the price is given in advance; one visit usually costs less than calling several technicians. More — new-build flat tech setup.
FAQ
Questions and answers
What first if the renovation isn’t finished?
Plan where the router and TV will be and bring sockets and cable there in advance — it is harder later.
Do you hang ceiling lights?
Yes — ceiling lights, wall lamps, sockets and switches. No fuse boards or rewiring.
