How to open a computer repair workshop in Batumi
I have been fixing computers since the early 2000s and work on home visits myself: I come to the client’s home or office. So I will start with the main choice: a shopfront or visits. Then tools, parts, prices and clients.
A shopfront or home visits
- Home visits — minimal investment, convenient for clients, especially in new buildings and offices. Downside — travel time and limits on complex repairs.
- A workshop — soldering, board repair, screen replacement, taking in equipment. You need rent, a counter, storage for other people’s devices and record-keeping.
- Mixed — visits for setup and small repairs, complex work in the workshop.
Tools to start with
- A screwdriver set for laptops and phones, plastic spudgers, an antistatic mat and wrist strap.
- A multimeter, thermal paste, compressed air or a compressor for cleaning.
- A bootable USB stick with an official Windows image and diagnostic utilities.
- An external SSD for backing up the client’s data before a repair.
- For soldering — a soldering station and good lighting, if you go into board repair.
Prices and honesty
- Publish prices on your website — clients in Batumi compare.
- Name the price before the work, and agree any changes.
- Do not "treat" what is cheaper to replace, and say so directly.
- Give a warranty on your work — mine is 3 months.
The client’s data
The most valuable thing in a computer is not the hardware but the photos and documents. Make a copy before reinstalling, do not look at personal files, delete the copy after handing the device back. Confidentiality is what clients recommend a technician for.
Clients
- Google Maps is the main source. Ask for a review after every job.
- A website with prices and articles about common problems (like mine on tariel.ge).
- Working in three languages — Russian, Georgian, English — is a big advantage in Batumi.
- Contracts with offices — stable income outside the season.
