How to open a computer shop in Batumi
In 2005 I was the only technician in a newly opened computer shop in Batumi: I built computers and installed software. A lot has changed since then: prices are compared on phones, laptops are ordered from marketplaces. But one thing has stayed: people come not for a box but for a solution and a person who will help later. Here is what to build a shop on today.
Choose a format
- Shop + service — selling laptops and parts plus setup, building and data transfer. Services give a margin the internet cannot eat.
- Parts and PC builds — for gamers and offices: builds for a task, SSD and memory upgrades.
- Tested used equipment — checked laptops with an honest description of their condition and a shop warranty.
- Online + pick-up — no big shop window, with delivery around Batumi.
Do not compete on price alone
Competing with big chains and marketplaces on price is hard. You win with service: set up the laptop at purchase, transfer files, install programs, explain in Russian, Georgian or English, give a phone number for questions. My experience: customers return to whoever helped after the purchase.
Registration and cash register

Warranty and honesty
- Write the warranty on the receipt and in the description: the term and what it covers.
- For used equipment — the condition of the battery, drive and screen in words and numbers.
- Check the laptop in front of the customer — it removes half the disputes.
Online from day one
- A Google Maps profile with photos, opening hours and phone.
- A website or page with your range and prices; listings on the major Georgian classifieds sites.
- Instagram and Facebook with real product photos, not manufacturer images.
- Fast replies on WhatsApp — many people buy from whoever answered first.
