Email on your own domain: why a company needs info@…
An email from sales@company.ge and one from a free mailbox look different to a client. The first is a company; the second is "someone". If you already have a website, email on your own domain costs next to nothing and brings real benefits.
What you get
- Trust. A client, shipowner or partner immediately sees a company writing, not a private person.
- Mail stays with the company. When an employee leaves, the mailbox and all client correspondence remain; the manager changes the password.
- Less spam and spoofing. SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are set up for your domain — messages land in spam less often and scammers find it harder to write in your name.
- Order. Shared role addresses — info@, sales@, cv@ (for crewing, seafarers’ CVs) — can be handed over between people.
Why it matters for crewing and B2B
Scammers send fake "vacancies" in the name of well-known companies from free mailboxes. If you have DMARC set up and everyone knows your single domain address, a fake is easier to spot.
How to switch without losing mail
- Check where the domain is registered and whether email is included in your hosting plan.
- Create mailboxes and shared addresses.
- Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC so messages get delivered.
- Move old correspondence if you need it.
- Connect the mail on staff phones and computers.
- The old address forwards to the new one for a couple of months.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Is it expensive?
Email is often already included in your website hosting plan. For many mailboxes there are inexpensive business email services.
Can we keep using the Gmail app?
Yes. Mail on your own domain can be read in your usual app on phone and computer.
How long does the switch take?
For a small office, usually one visit plus a few hours while the domain records update.
