If they burn out in one light
- A worn holder. The centre contact is pressed down or oxidised — poor contact, heat, short bulb life.
- Overheating in a closed shade. LED bulbs dislike closed shades: the driver overheats. You need bulbs rated for enclosed fittings, or a lower wattage.
- A bulb more powerful than the fitting allows (written on the holder or shade).
- A loose terminal in the light’s connection.
If they burn out all over the flat
- Voltage fluctuations in the supply — especially noticeable if the light also flickers when powerful appliances switch on.
- A poor neutral contact in the fuse box or at the supply entry — a matter for an electrical installer or the power company.
- Very cheap bulbs from one batch.
What to check yourself
- Try a bulb from a different maker.
- Look at the holder with the breaker off: has the plastic darkened, are there signs of heat?
- Note how often and where they burn out — it speeds up finding the cause.
How I can help
I replace the holder or the light, tighten the terminals and choose suitable bulbs for a closed shade. If the cause is in the general wiring or the supply entry, I will say so honestly and suggest where to turn: I do not do fuse boxes or main wiring.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Why do LED bulbs in particular burn out?
Most often the driver overheats in a closed shade or there is a poor contact in the holder.
Does the whole light need replacing?
Not necessarily: often replacing the holder is enough.
How much does it cost?
From 50 ₾ per visit: I find the cause and replace the holder or terminal on the spot.
