Where to check
- System Settings → Battery → the “i” next to Battery Health: “Normal” or “Service Recommended” and maximum capacity in per cent.
- Cycle count: Apple menu → About This Mac → More Info → System Report → Power.
What the numbers mean
Capacity around 80% or lower, a “Service Recommended” message or a swollen case means it is time for a new battery. Swelling is dangerous: do not charge the laptop or press on the case.
Making it last
- Keep Optimized Battery Charging on — the Mac holds the charge below 100% when it stays plugged in.
- Keep the laptop out of heat: sun, a hot car, a soft blanket.
- Use the original or a quality charger.
- Update macOS — updates often improve power use.
Draining fast with a healthy battery
Apps are often to blame: open Activity Monitor → Energy to see what uses power. A browser with dozens of tabs and big folder syncs are common culprits.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Do you replace MacBook batteries?
I check the battery, tell you whether it is worth replacing and where to get it done with a warranty. Cleaning, diagnosis and setup are done on site.
Is it bad to keep a MacBook always plugged in?
With Optimized Battery Charging on, no — macOS limits the charge itself.
